Sri Lanka is anxious to host Pakistan – England series in the upcoming year. As Pakistan will have to remain deprived of hosting the great teams due to security conditions so Pakistan Cricket Board has another option.
According to details, the Secretary of interim committee of Sri Lanka cricket board, Nishantha Ranatunga, has told in an interview that Pakistan and England cricket officials have consulted them for holding the series and they have responded positively. He said that cricket lovers always show keen interest in the matches in which English team participates so Sri Lankan board is hoping for getting reasonable financial benefit through this series. It is to be remembered that Sri Lankan board is facing a formidable economic crisis today. Bari Army fans of England always use to go with the team for supporting their team. According to the Secretary of the board, through this series, the tourism in Sri Lanka will also flourish which is emerging rapidly after the removal of Tamil Tigers from Sri Lanka.
England has to play a series of 3 Tests and 5 ODIs in the first month of upcoming year. Ranatunga further told that probably the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series in October, will also hosted by Sri Lanka the second option for this series is UAE, which is considered as home ground by Pakistan. Prior to that, Sri Lanka had host Pakistan-Australia series in 2002 on its grounds. On the other hand, Chief Operating Officer of PCB, Subhan Ahmed, has told that the matter of holding of both series is not finalized yet and PCB have kept both, Sri Lanka and UAE, under consideration and will opt for less expensive ground.
