Ashish Bagai has resigned as skipper of Canadian Cricket team ahead of the Intercontinental Cup which is set to be start from next month. Board has accepted Bagai’s decision.
Bagai, the wicketkeeper batsman, made his entrance in international cricket in 2003 and has had two stretches as team leader, will still be obtainable for selection as a regular player.
29-year-old, Indian-origin Bagai, in an epistle to the country’s board stated:
“It has been an honor to captain my country in the sport I love and I thank everyone in this organization who helped and supported me throughout my term including administrators, coaches, managers and most of all, the players.”
“I undertook each task over the last two years with the primary objective of moving not just the team but also the entire organization forward.”
Bagai has played 52 one-days Internationals, more than any other Canadian player.
He grasped the Canadian record for highest ODI score 137* against Scotland. In that game he stitched 100 runs for 4th wicket along with Asif Mulla which was the first ever century stand for Canada.
He led Canadian team during the recent World Cup and scored 64* against Kenya of 97 balls as Canada registered the only victory of the event. .
