Veteran all-rounder James Franklin has been left out of New Zealand’s list of 20 contracted players for season 2011-12 subsequent to his disappointing performance in the World Cup 2011
“A set criteria is used to rank players across all three forms of the game with Test cricket receiving twice the weighting of ODIs and Twenty20 internationals. The players with the highest aggregate score are then offered New Zealand Cricket contracts,” NZC said in a statement released on Friday.
Apart from Franklin, all-rounder Grant Elliott, wicket-keeper Gareth Hopkins, Test opener Tim McIntosh, fast bowler Daryl Tuffey and off-spinner Jeetan Patel, who received an elevated contracts earlier this year are also cut-out while and retired batsman Scott Styris was not considered.
Two young all-rounders Rob Nicol and Luke Woodcock, Wicket-keeper batsman Reece Young, and fast bowler Trent Boult seeks the contracts while Daniel Flynn and Neil Broom are both back after missing contracts last season.
“Seven changes to the contracted list highlights the fact that there are a number of quality cricketers contesting for the top 20 contracts,” Mark Greatbatch, the selection manager said.
“That kind of competitiveness is good for our cricket,” he added.
List of contracted players:
