With three splendid centuries in the second innings, United Arab Emirates (UAE) routed Kenya by a massive margin of 266 runs in the four-day fixture of ICC Intercontinental Cup 2011-2013 at Gymkhana Cricket Club, Nairobi.
After hosts opened up a six-run lead on first innings, Saqib Ali, Amjad Javed and Khurram Khan all played three figures innings as the away side declared their second innings on 439 for eight to set a gigantic target of 434 for Kenya.
Kenya commenced the concluding day on 76 for 4 but against the catastrophic bowling of tourists the wickets fell like pack of cards and the hosts bundled out for 167 runs in just 36.1 overs.
Except new skipper Collins Obuya (63) and Ramesh Mepani (37) no batsman can show the resistance with five of Kenyans failed to reach double figures.
UAE amplified the dilemma of hosts in the second over by eliminating Mansukh Jasani for a duck before Obuya and Mepani added 37-run stand in mutual cooperation that was the second highest of the innings.
With the fall of Obuya the Kenya’s chances of saving the game also ended, and the final four wickets fell for 42 runs.
Shoaib Sarwar, Amjad Javed and Mohammad Tauqir claimed two wickets apiece to help UAE mark their return to the Intercontinental Cup with a justified triumph.
The one-day series between both sides was drawn with 1-1. With the victory in this game, UAE annexed the top spot in Intercontinental Cup points table.
