Indians defeated Leicestershire in last tour match

By on Monday, 29th August 2011

Parthiv Patel smashed 40 off 31 balls and Vinay Kumar snapped three scalps for 29 as Indians defeated Leicestershire County in T20 match at Leicester on Monday to complete the hat-trick of victories in the tour games.

This was the last practice game of tourists before the limited-over series against England.

The opening pair Patel and Ajinkya Rahane (19), established firm stand of 52 which was well vindicated by middle-order as Indians posted 161 for five in the limited overs.

In reply, Andrew McDonald (44) and Abdul Razzaq (37) were only batsmen who demonstrated struggling and the county side can reach 146 at the lose of seven wickets.

Rahane, who has been called up as the replacement of injured Virender Sehwag, managed three boundaries during his 13 ball-knock before gifting a comfortable catch to Jigar Naik off Razzaq’s mysterious delivery.

McDonald dismissed Patel with the assistance of Will Jefferson. He guided the ball six times across the boundary line during his 32 mint stay at crease.

Virat Kohli, played a key role in his side’s 5-run victory over Kent in the second tour game by smashing 70 on Friday, selected a wrong short soon this time and bestowed catch to substitute GP Smith of Naik for 15.

Indians VS Leicestershire: Dravid batted levelheadedly

Dravid displayed a levelheaded show again and marked 29 off 31 balls before becoming the victim of Jushua Cobb.

Rohit Sharma, who accumulated 29 off 21 balls smashing two monster sixers and a boundary, was victimized by Cobb in the concluding over. Suresh Raina remained unbeaten for 21.

To kick-off the run-chase mission, the hosts lose the wicket of opener Cobb in the very first over when Praveen Kumar plunked his stumps on fourth ball.

But quickly McDonald and Jefferson convalesced the county team with their brisk 44-run partnership for the second wicket.

Jefferson was trapped lbw by Amit Mishra for 20, which he scored off 15 deliveries lashing four boundaries.

A couple of overs later Vinay Kumar edged James Taylor to Patel for 5 to leave the hosts 66 for 3.

The hopes for Leicestershire dimmed more when well-set McDonald was bowled out by Vinay. McDonald 34-ball cameo was comprised of five boundaries and a lanky six.

Another miserable spin magic scolded the stumps of Paul Nixon for 6 which crippled the host batting line-up.

Indians VS Leicestershire: Razzaq revived hopes for hosts

But Razzaq revived the hopes for county again by hammering the opponent bowlers with a hostile knock of 37 from 24 balls.

Razzaq managed five boundaries before he was being snapped by Kohli off Ashwin to conclude any further sensation.

J du Toit (13) was the third sufferer of Vinay.

The solitary shortest format game between India and England will be played on Wednesday which will be followed by five-match one-day series.
