The selection panel of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Monday announced 14-man squad for one-off Test against Pakistan, set to be start on Thursday at Queens Sports Club in Bolawayo.
The only change to the side which scripted a historical 130-run victory over Bangladesh after six year exile earlier this month is the seamer Keegan Meth who lost three upper- teeth after being hit in the mouth by a Nasir Hossain vigorous straight shot in the last ODI against Bangladesh on August 21.
The chairman of selectors Alistair Campbell Zimbabwe Cricket said that the replacement of Meth replacement would be named tomorrow after flattering the conditions.
“It’s basically the same squad that we named for the Bangladesh series with the exception of Keegan Meth who is still recovering from that nasty injury.
“So the 14 players we named the last time remain the same and we will be naming the 15th player on the eve of the match, depending on the conditions at the match venue and the performances from the practice match,” Campbell said while talking to a leading Zimbabwean newspaper.
Catastrophic left-arm seamer Brian Vitori, who skipped the last two ODIs, due to shin injury, has now been fully recovered and geared up to lead the pace attack alongside fellow bowlers Kyle Jarvis and Chris Mpofu.
It is expected that in-form skipper Brendan Taylor, will open the innings alongside Vusi Sibanda, while Hamilton Masakadza and Tatenda Taibu will fortify the middle-order.
Zimbabwe Squad:
Brendan Taylor (Captain), Regis Chakabva, Elton Chigumbura, Craig Ervine, Kyle Jarvis, Hamilton Masakadza, Tino Mawoyo, Christopher Mpofu, Ray Price, Vusi Sibanda, Tatenda Taibu, Prosper Utseya, Brian Vitori
