Skipper Shahid Afridi’s double assault guided Karachi Dolphins to a trouble-free eight-wicket victory over Islamabad Leopards in the Faisal Bank Twent20 Tournament Group ‘D’ game, at National Stadium Karachi on Thursday.
Afridi scalped three batsmen for 20 runs while his other bowlers also through their accurate bowling to restrict Leopards to 131-9 after their skipper Rao Iftakhar Anjum won toss and opted to bat.
Opening the innings with Sahhzaib Hasan (21), the all-rounder smashed 58 off 32 balls with six boundaries and two monster sixers to help Dolphins chase-down the modest target with more then six overs to spare.
Dolphins were needed just 26 for win when Afridi departed after developing brisk 70-run stand alongside Rameez Raja (36 not out).
Prior to this, Leopards batsmen could not resist against Dolphins onslaughts, and their wickets continued falling after regular intervals. Afaq Rahim (22), and Moed Ahmed (21) were the prominent scorers.
Leopards, losing their second match in a row, concluded their chances of a last-four slot.
While Dolphins, who annexed the top spot in their group ‘D’ will play their last game against Peshawar Panthers on Friday.
The first semi-final will be played between the group ‘A’ toppers Lahore Lions and group ‘C’ dominators Sialkot Stallions on Saturday.
