England batsman Kevin Pietersen has received an official reprimand from International Cricket Council (ICC) for his reaction to being given out during the T20 conquest over India at the Eden Gardens of Kolkata on Saturday.
The 31-year-old, who slammed 53 off 39 balls to lead his side crushing six-wicket victory, was pronounced lbw by umpire Sudhir Asnani despite Suresh Raina’s low-pitched delivery pitched outside the leg stump.
He was found to have committed the level one breach ICC’s code of conduct.
“Kevin Pietersen has been officially reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s six-wicket victory over India in the only Twenty20 International (T20I) of the series in Kolkata on Saturday,” the ICC said in a statement released on Sunday.
The batsman pleaded guilty to the charge and as such, under the provisions of the code, the matter was determined by Roshan Mahanama of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and so there was no requirement for the full hearings.
The charge was laid by on-field umpires Asnani and S.Ravi, third umpire Vineet Kulkarni and the fourth umpire K.Srinath.
