Fidel Edward’s five wicket burst and ton from namesake Kirk bolstered the West Indies domination on the second day of second and final Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur on Sunday.
Kirk Edwards slammed 121 as the tourists were bundled out for 355 shortly in the post lunch session.
Fidel Edwards then made back-to-back outbursts to eliminate the top five batsmen for just 59, before Shakib Al Hasan, who had earlier picked up five wickets, led the recovery with 73 as Bangladesh closed on 204 for seven, still trailing by with 151.
Fidel Edwards claimed opener Tamim Iqbal (14) and Shahriar Nafees (7), caught by Darren Bravo at short-leg in his first three overs before dismissing skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Raqibul Hasan for blobs in consecutive balls in the subsequent over.
His fifth scalp was opener Imrul Kayes (29), who smashed a towering six and five boundaries in his 26-ball before falling catch to Kraigg Brathwaite at gully.
The wipe out of top-order forced Shakib and Naeem Islam (45) to shoulder the obligation and they did so by developing 84-run stand. Shakib lashed three boundaries to skipper Darren Sammy in an over before his stumps were being bowled by Devendra Bishoo.
Naeem was run out off Roach for 45 just before in the penultimate over to stumps. Well set Nasir Hossain (34 not out) and Suhrawadi Shuvo (2 not out) closed the proceedings.
Prior to this, Kirk Edwards, whose overnight score was 71, hit twice back-to-back boundaries after entering into 90s and lofted the ball for a lovely straight drive single to complete his 224-ball hundred. His smashed two sixes and 14 boundaries in his blazing knock before Shakib uprooted his stumps.
Shakib not permitted his next four scalps Kemar Roach (6), Carlton Baugh (6), Sammy (1) and Fidel Edwards (9) to reach double figures as last five tourists batsman could add just 36 runs to their side’s total.
The rain-hit opening Test was ended in a draw in Chittagong.
