Dav Whatmore (left), Jonty Rhodes (right) are contenders for Pakistan coach
Ashraf said that Whatmore, who was Sri Lanka coach during their World Cup victory in 1996, Rhodes are under serious consideration as chief coach and fielding coach.
PCB has been searching for a new head coach since Waqar Younis stepped down from the post after the series against Zimbabwe in September this year citing health problems.
A three-member committee for the appointment of head coach was constituted by PCB which globally advertised for the vacancy and received 37 applications. The committee suggested that foreign coach would be best suited to the hot-seat and short-listed names of five candidates.
When Ashraf took over the charge as PCB new chairman last month, following the completion of Ijaz Butt’s three year tenure and suggested to hire separate coaches for all three fields of game, PCB again advertised for the positions of batting, bowling and fielding coaches and received about 15 applications from interested candidates.
Since Waqar’s resign, Mohsin is serving as interim coach but it is expected that a head coach will be appointed before Pakistan’s important series against England in United Arab Emeritus, scheduled January next year.
