Mitchell Johnson faces five months out
The cricket governing body in Australia, Cricket Australia, confirmed the news that 30-year-old year will move to Melbourne Wednesday to be evaluated by a surgical crew and CA surgeon Trefor James. If the surgery will be inevitable for recovery then the player will be operated within next 24 hours.
Australian physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Mitchell will travel to Melbourne this week to be reviewed by specialist doctors and will most likely need surgery, which is expected to keep him out of cricket for four to five months.”
This long absence will also rule him out of Australia’s tour to West Indies during next March and April. He is already under pressure because of the disappointing performance in the series against South Africa; he could claim only 3 wickets at the cost of 255 runs in the two Tests.
Australian skipper Michael Clarke expressed disappointment on missing out Johnson for the whole summer which features the Australia’s series against New Zealand, India and West Indies.
Along with Johnson, Ryan Harris, Pat Cummins and Shane Watson will also miss out Thursday’s first Test against New Zealand due to injury problems.
