Graeme Smith rubbishes reports of quitting
Bouncing back courageously after losing the series-opener in Centurion by an innings, Sri Lanka utterly outplayed the Proteas in all departments to record a comprehensive 208-run victory at Kingsmead on Thursday, which was their first in South Africa.
“That’s not the case at all. As long as coach (Gary Kirsten) and the team want me in the job, I’ll do the job,” Smith said while speaking to Zee News.
“For as long as I’m wanted as captain, I’ll get in and do the job to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, when you lose in the manner that we did today, there are disappointing stories out there but I think that one was a bit too much.”
Smith’s comments came after a post on Twitter claimed that the left-hander had resigned and went so far as to say he was not happy with side’s selection changes for the series-deciding Test in Cape Town.
The Proteas have not won a home Test series since beating Bangladesh 2-0 in July 2008.
