Australia celebrating the victory
India, who were pressed under the mountain of 500 runs, skittle out for 201 in 69.4 overs, slumping to their eighth successive overseas Test defeat. Last year they also faced such humiliation at the hands of England in four-Test rubber.
India have not won a series in Australia in 10 tours.
Resuming the innings at 166-6, India, who took the match into fifth day for the first time in series, lost Ishant Sharma and wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha quickly.
Paceman Ryan Harris (3) struck as early as in the third over in morning to get rid of Ishant caught by Brad Haddin behind stumps before Peter Siddle dismissed Wriddhiman (3) in the similar fashion.
Ravichandran Ashwin (15 not out) and Zaheer Khan (15) kept Australia’s victory bids at bay for almost half-hour but paceman Ben Hilfenhaus, who finished as the highest wicket-taker with 28 scalps, broke the deadlock by claiming latter, caught by David Warner at point.
Zaheer’s quick-fire 18-ball knock was laced with three boundaries.
Afterwards off-spinner Nathan Lyon (4-63) took no time in wrapping up the proceedings by edging Umesh Yadav (1) behind the stumps.
Siddle, who produced five-wicket haul in the first innings, clinched Man of the Match Award while skipper Michael Clarke, who amassed 626 runs at 125.20 in this series with a triple and a double-century, was named Player of the Series.
“I think the job we’ve done over the last month has been outstanding. It hasn’t been easy despite the 4-0, we’ve had to work our backsides off,” Clarke said.
India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who missed the match because of India’s slow over rate in Perth said:
“I think Australia played brilliantly throughout the series and stepped up when it was needed.”
