MS Dhoni offered to quit captaincy
The 30-year-old is currently facing intense criticism for below-par captaincy and performance during India’s back-to-back 0-4 Test whitewashes at the hands of England and Australia respectively.
Dhoni made 220 at 31.43 from four Tests in England and scored 102 from six innings of three Tests at 20.40 Down Under. He was banned for the fourth and final Test in Adelaide due to slow over-rate in previous Test in Perth.
A news report came in media on Sunday had reviled that BCCI has decided to relieve Dhoni from Test captaincy and Virender Sehwag will be the frontrunner for vacant post.
“It (captaincy) doesn’t belong to anyone. It’s a position I hold, and it’s an added responsibility. I always like to do well till I am in the job but it’s not something I want to stick to. If there is a better replacement, he can come in,” Dhoni said in a press-conference on Tuesday.
“At the end of the day, you want India to perform. If there is someone who can do a better job, captaincy should be given to him. It’s not something you have to cling on to,” he added.
Dhoni has played 67 Tests, with 3509 runs to his credit.
