Sourav Ganguly backs rotation policy
In accordance with rotation policy in-form opener Gautam Gambhir, who played back-to-back vigils in 90s in the last two matches, could be sit out in the match against Australia in Brisbane on Sunday and several have lashed out management for his possible sitting out but Ganguly says it is necessary to give breaks to the players present Down Under since December.
“It’s a good thing and should happen. It has been a long tour and India lost four consecutive Test matches, which can be mentally very draining. For the guys who have been there from the 8th of December, its been almost two and half months,” said Ganguly on Friday.
“It’s good that every one is getting a chance. All players will be mentally fresh for the final stages of the tournament.”
So far the rotation of spots is between the three top-order players but Ganguly reckons that the policy should be applied in the other orders as well. He also expressed the hopefulness of the inclusion of flamboyant Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary in the upcoming matches.
“Rotation should happen everywhere. I hope Manoj Tiwary gets a chance. He got a hundred in his last game. So why he can’t get a chance in this team is difficult to understand,” said the cricket-turned-commentator.
