Kevin Pietersen hit his second successive ODI century
Pietersen smashed his career-best 130 off 153 balls and stitched up 109 runs alongside Craig Kieswetter (43) for fifth wicket to lead England beyond 238-run victory target with four balls to spare.
Earlier, Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali hit half centuries as Pakistan were bundled out for 237 with England paceman Jade Dernbach bagging four wickets.
England won the first ODI by 130 runs, second by 20 and the third by nine wickets. It was England’s first whitewash against Pakistan in a limited-over series in 25 years. England were whitewashed 3-0 in the preceding Test series.
“It was a really good comeback,” England captain Alastair Cook said. “I said at the beginning of series that if we are going to turn this around, we need people to stand up and be counted. I think a number of us have done that in the side. Pakistan had won 14 out of 15 one-dayers in a row. For us to win 4-0 in subcontinent-like conditions is a fantastic achievement for us.”
England were 4-68 at one stage but Pietersen-Kieswetter association batted with the levelheaded approach and lifted the tally to 177-4 before latter got run out in attempt to complete a risky single.
Pietersen lofted a single off Junaid Khan to reach his ninth ODI ton. His overall vigil was laced with 12 boundaries and two sixes.
“It was probably the best innings I’ve played,” said Pietersen, who scored 111 not out in the third ODI on Saturday. “I think you need experience and runs in order to keep the situation very simple and back your ability. When I saw they were playing 40 overs of spin I thought, ‘Oh no.’ But I’ve spent hours and hours with Mushy (England spin coach Mushtaq Ahmed) to sort out the issue.
Samit Patel contributed unbeaten 17 runs.
Earlier, Ali (58) and Shafiq (65) put on 111 for the second wicket to set the stage for a big total but failed to sustain the momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals afterwards.
Skipper Misbah-ul Haq chipped in with a 52-ball 46 which was studded with one four and a six.
The teams now play three Twenty20 internationals starting in Dubai on Thursday.
