LONDON :
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to field, in overcast conditions, in the first Test against England at Lord’s here on Thursday.
England gave a Test debut to Ireland-born batsman Eoin Morgan, already a one-day and Twenty20 international, on the left-hander’s Middlesex home ground and omitted Yorkshire paceman Ajmal Shahzad, who was in a 12-man squad.
The home side had Test captain Andrew Strauss back in the side after he was rested from the tour of Bangladesh earlier this year and opted out of England’s victorious World Twenty20 team in the Caribbean as he no longer plays that form of the game.
Bangladesh welcomed back captain Shakib from a bout of chicken pox and gave a Test debut to fast bowler Robiul Islam.
The Asian minnows have won just three of their 66 Tests and haven’t even managed a draw, let a lone a victory, over England.
