India and Australia are battling in the fist test match of two test match series at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh. Australia won the toss and the batted on the first day of the test match. The start was not good as was expected and they lost early wicket of SM Katich. After 1 wicket down captain R Ponting along with opener Watson made 141 runs partnership. Ponting got out after scoring 71 runs.

Watson stayed on the wicket and completed his century. His batting took Australian team in the strong position to win the match. TD Paine was the man who scored 92 runs in the middle order. Australian players were all out on 428 runs and they took 151.4 over to score these runs. Z Khan took 5 wickets and gave away 94 runs. Harbajan Singh also took 3 wickets.

G Gambhir and Sehwag launched attack on Australian bowlers. G Gambhir got out after scoring 25 runs while Sehwag made half century before he got out just before the end of the play. He scored 59 runs. At the end of day 2 play India were 110 for the loss of two wickets. Dravid and night watch man I Sharma are two not out batsmen for India.
