Australia sit pretty at 322 for 5 at Gabba

Simon KatichAustralia ended the opening day’s play of the 1st Test at Gabba against West Indies at 322 for 5 after winning the toss. West Indies had a bright start when Shane Watson was lbw on nought after offering no shot to a Jerome Taylor inswinger. After that it was all Australia with Simon Katich (92 from 134 balls with 13 fours and a six) and Ricky Ponting (55 from 79 balls with 8 fours) laying the foundation for a big first innings score.

Michael Hussey scored 66 and Michael Clarke, Marcus North hit 40s to further consolidate the hosts. At stumps on Day 1, Australia have Marcus North on 42 along with wicket keeper Brad Haddin who is on 9.  Dwayne Bravo picked up two wickets to be the most successful bowler of the day.
