New Zealand sealed an easy victory over the Bangladesh as the hosts won the one-off T20 International at Seddon Park in Hamilton. The visiotrs were bowled out for 78 in 17.3 overs and the hots replied strongly with to pile down the target with losing any wicket.
Bangladesh after opting to bat first reeled cheaply and lost wickets regularly as Daniel Vettori was the main destroyer for the Blackcaps with his devastating figures of 4-1-6-3. For the Bangladesh Raqibul Hasan top scored with a fighting 18, opener Tamim Iqbal (14 off 9 balls) and Aftab Ahmed composed 12 off 14 balls.
Daryl Tuffey was the first to provide breakthrough, having Iqbal caught behind, James Franklin then bowled Aftab Ahmed for 12 in his only over before Vettori ripped through the line up. “I thought Tuffey was outstanding. He’s carried his form in from domestic cricket and set a great platform for myself and for Nathan McCullum to capitalise on. I think that taking five for 20 between us really made the difference,” Man of the match Vettori spoke highly of the bowling attack.
New Zealand in reply was powered by Brendon McCullum’s blitz of 56 off 27 balls with debutant Peter Ingram’s cameo of 20 off 23 balls helped the hosts to reach the target in 8.2 overs with 10-wicket in hands. “I think the Pete (Ingram) hit the ball a lot better than I did but I managed to get a couple away as well. It was a good partnership and one that starts Pete’s career really well,” McCullum said for Ingram.
