Australia wins the first One-Day International against England in Melbourne and takes the lead of 1-0 in seven-matches ODI series. Shane Watson was the hero of the match who scored brilliant career-best unbeaten 161runs. Kangaroos pulled off the highest successful run-chase at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the one-day international history on Sunday. The host side achieved the target of when 5 balls were remaining in the completion of innings. Brad Haddin was also prominent along with Watson with 39 runs.
Before this the guest English captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and elected to bat first. Blue shirts batted positively, all-rounder Kevin Pietersen scored 78 in his return to the one-day cricket. Skipper Andrew Strauss scored 63 and shared a 90-run opening stand with Steve Davies, who scored 42 runs. The pair of Watson and Haddin made a partnarship of 110 runs in the first wicket and brings their side in a strong position. After scored 39 runs Haddin caught by Ajmal Shahzad bowled by Gram Swaan. Ajmal Shahzad was the fielder again but blower was Brestlian. The 3rd wicket of Austrlia falls Mike Hussy became the second wicket of Brestlain. On the first bowl of the last over Watson hit a massive six and this was the victory short for Yellow-shirts. He was declared as man of the match. After getting the prize he said:
“It’s always nice to start the one-day series after the Ashes defeat. It’s a beautiful wicket so we always knew it was in reach. It was nice to be there at the end.”
