Chairman of Pakistan cricket board Ijaz Butt, decided to maintain Shahid Afridi as a captain after seeing tremendous performance of all-rounder in the third one-day international against New Zealand. The announcement is expected on today (Sunday) or Monday. The colleagues of chairman also advised to not take risk of change team leader when less then three weeks are remaining in start of Mega event. The World Cup is going to be start from 19 February, co-hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
On 18 January PCB selection committee announced final squad for Mega event without captain. So it was seemed that may be this responsibility will be handed over to present Test team captain Misbah-ul-Haq. In this regard from few days Ijaz Butt is present in
New Zealand so he can solve the issue of captaincy.
According to reliable sources team management warned him that at this stage change in leadership will be dangerous for the whole team so avoid taking this step. Wonderful performance by the captain Afridi and whole team makes this task easy for Ijaz Butt. So
in order to become captain of team for limited over cricket Misbah have to wait more. Sources said that after knowing the decision of PCB chairman team manager Intakhab Alam and coach Waqar Younis also give vote in the favor of Afridi. While Chief selector

At the time of team announcement PCB declared that team leader will be announced after the complete results of Pak-New Zealand 6 ODI series but after the criticism from former cricketers and getting free-hand from presidency, Chairman decided to announce captain before the fourth ODI. It is to be remembered that due to excellent team work green shirts beat host Kiwi side by 43 runs in third ODI at Christ Church.
