After equaling the ODI series with 1-1 both Pakistan and New Zealand came to Napier from Christ Church where fourth match will be played in Mclean Park this ground is sign of fear for the Pakistani team. By this time green shirts had to face defeat 4 times in
this ground and the only reason of defeats was flopping of batting lineup and the team even once cross the figure of 200 in the matches played at this ground. No batsman scored a fifty except all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.
Green shirts team played their first one-day match at this ground in 1981 but can just score 167 runs and faced a defeat of 110 runs. The fate didn’t change in 1992 and whole team only get success to make 136 runs, this time the defeat was in the form of 6 wickets.
In 2001 the total was one less then the last match they played 135, but result was same again, Pakistan faced a 6 wicket defeat again but all-rounder Abdul Razzak became the first Pakistani player to score a fifty in Mclean Park. In 2004 tour Pakistan team can just score 126 runs on this ground and Kiwis beat guest side by 8 wickets.
Team manager of Pakistan cricket team, Intakhab Alam is confident that this time their team will perform well. He said that we don’t wana see in the past and players are not facing any psychological pressure. Our present form is good and we are hopeful to take
lead in the match going to be played on 1 February. He further said that the pitch of Mclean Park couldn’t be declared dangerous and Pakistan drawn the Test match after scoring 455 runs on this pitch. Alam said that pitches are not always like same and wicket of Mclean is not like as past now. On the question of any change in playing XI, team manager said that this will be decided after seeing the wicket.
Before this, players of both sides took rest on Sunday. The practice session is scheduled on Monday 10 AM, on the local time. After losing the lead from series Kiwi captain Denial Vettori said that he will take part in fourth match and will try to take lead in the
series again.
