Australian captain Ricky Ponting is playing his fifth world cup. His appearance in the first match of 2011 world cup will be record appearance for him. He has played 39 world cup matches. He is currently sharing the record with Glen McGrath and in the game against Zimbabwe on 21st February he will make the record of most appearance in the world cup matches.
He will play his 40th ODI world cup match and will hold new record in his come back game. He was out of form in Ashes and missed out in the fifth Ashes test match due to finger injury. He get his form back after back to back half centuries in warm-up games.
Australia has lost both warm up games and they are looking to make it back on winning streak. Australia’s last world cup defeat was against Pakistan in 1999 world cup during group matches. After that Australia win all world cup matches in 1999, 2003 and 2007 world cup.
Ponting also want to be the record holding captain to have three consecutive World Cups under his captaincy. Australia has beaten England 6-1 before coming to the world cup 2011. The heroes of Australia McGrath, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist are retired and there are some new players in the world cup squad.
