South African leg spinner Imran Tahir is confident that he will play in the important World Cup game against India, despite of this that his thumb is fractured. On Thursday he participated in the practice session.
31-year-old Tahir, who is a leading wicket taker from South Africa in the ongoing World Cup with 11 wickets, suffered a chip-fracture to his left thumb during the match against England on Sunday while catching the ball to dismiss Jonathan Trott. But the good news is that the injury is not on his bowling hand (as he bowl with the right hand).
“I am confident I will be able to play,” said Tahir on Wednesday night. “It’s a little uncomfortable, but I think I’ll be okay. I want to play. It’s up to the management.”
The South African team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee, on Wednesday, said that no decision would be made on Tahir’s participation in the match against india nor for the rest of the tournament, before getting that diagnosis and assessing his recovery.
A team spokesperson told to a sports website on Thursday:
“Tahir has been advised rest for 10 days but he remains available for all South Africa’s matches.”
Favorite South Africa will face India on Saturday at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
