India secures a thriller by one run

India Vs South Africa :- India thumped South Africa by one run in the first ODI to pile up 1-0 in the three-match series, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The frightening 65-run ninth wicket partnership between Wayne Parnell (49) and Dale Steyn (35) off just 38 balls nearly jolted India, in chase of a 299-run winning target, were all out for 297 on the last ball of the match. The visitors needed 10 runs of the last over – which was delivered by Praveen Kumar – who kept his cool down and restrict the opponent, three runs on the final ball and a run out cut down while taking the quick double hand India a nail-biting win.

Earlier captain Jacques Kallis, who had claimed three Indian wickets for 29 runs from his seven tight overs, top-scored for South Africa with a 89 runs – his 75th half-century.

India after asked to bat first, had earlier posted 298 for nine, riding on some briskly innings from Suresh Raina (58), Virender Sehwag (46), Dinesh Karthik (44) and Virat Kohli (31) which took them near the 300-mark.

Sehwag and Karthik added 79 for the second wicket before the hard-hitter opener run out when Karthik’s shot was deflected on to the stumps after touching bowler Charl Langeveldt’s fingers. Karthik 56-ball knock stubbed by a six and five boundaries, before mistiming a pull shot off Langeveldt to Alviro Petersen at mid-on.

India was reeling at 4-138 when Dhoni fell for 26, guiiding a short delivery from Kallis to Albie Morkel at mid-off. The stand between Raina and Kohli ended when the latter was caught by Gibbs off Albie Morkel. Another hard-hitter recruit into India side, Yusuf Pathan, making his return to the injury-hit, was caught for 18 by Kallis at extra-cover off a full toss from Parnell.
