Pakistan all set to seek revenge against New Zealand

By BV Swagath on Sunday, 1st November 2009

Younis KhanAfter a shock defeat in the hands of New Zealand in the Semi-Finals of the recent ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan will be trying every bit to seek revenge on the Black Caps in the Desert Country of UAE this week. The two teams clash with each other in a 3-ODI Series followed up by a couple of Twenty20 Internationals.

Pakistan are the favourites to win the ODI Series as their opponents are without two key players in Jesse Ryder and Grant Elliott. Not sure if the absence of a Coach is going to affect the fortunes of an international side. In this case, we are talking about the Black Caps as they had the resignation of Andy Moles as the Coach and the hunt for a new one is still on. The experienced Daniel Vettori should be able to manage things without a Coach. He does have the experienced blokes like Scott Styris, Jacob Oram and Shane Bond to lean onto. Pakistan on the other hand had their share of drama with Younis Khan announcing his resignation as the Captain but later withdrawing it. They look like a strong unit and especially their batting now looks quite strong while bowling has always been their main strength.

All the three ODIs are at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi played on the 3rd, 6th and the 9th. The two T20Is are at the Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium on the 12th and the 13th. Pakistan have a busy schedule ahead of them with this UAE tour and then the tours of New Zealand and Australia.

Following are the Pakistan and New Zealand Squads for the upcoming matches in UAE:

Pakistan ODI Squad : Younis Khan (Captain), Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal (Wicket Keeper), Imran Farhat, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Khalid Latif, Abdul Razzaq, Umer Akmal, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamir, Iftikhar Anjum and Wahab Riaz
